I've taken up playing AutoAssault a little bit (though CoV is very much my primary MMORPG - I just have TOO much spare time).
It is an interesting and brutally exciting game, since you get to drive around shooting other cars and running over people (who scream, bursting to leave a bloody stain when you run over them in your monster truck). You get to have nice big spikes on the front of your car/bike/bus/truck/etc so that they burst even better! The physics engine in particular is excellent (think continual mayhem x10). Unlike CoV, there is more skill in combat, since everyone is moving at a fair speed and you are trying to line people up for your front gun (you have an onmi-directional turreted weapon too, but hitting with both is obviously twice the damage). Ramming is also a skill-based action, since the enemy is generally not wanting to get squashed.
The two main problems are that it feels unfinished and it is VERY solo oriented, until the endgame which is mainly group-based PVP. For example, several player powers just don't do anything in-game, though they are available and the graphics work...
Anyway, my main is a Biomek Constructor (aka healer) called "CrazyIvan" who drives a lovely fire-engine, but who can't wait for the bulldozer (clan is at biomek.org), and I also have a Mutant Archon (aka pet-class) called "SoaringFlame". The Human faction are just like the alliance in WoW - overpopulated with kids who like to win.
Anyway, it is pretty cheap now (£12.99 for box + first month) so if you are missing Carmageddon, you might like to give it a try. Just a shame that they released it unfinished and marketed it so badly that it was deemed a flop.
