Nice 6 minute documentary on Chinese gold farmers - any MMORPGer should watch this...put a face on people we slag off a lot (though it is the idiots who buy items that are the ones I don't understand).

Though I say stupid Yanks there are of course plenty of peeps in UK and Europe who would do the same.
But why PAY someone to get items for you? Surely they are worthless if u didnt work hard to get them? Where's the fun? Where's the humanity?

Actually, a chain of actual chinese gold farmers have been stopped in wow, they were on ALL eu servers, selling farmable high end items from either raid instances or normal endgame instances.
This in the end means that they had bought european games and logged on from sweat shops in asia O.o
Worst place when it comes to gold farmers is asian mmo's like final fantasy online and lineage. Final Fantasy was particulary bad imo since the very hard crafting system made a demand to ressources, some of which were botted or in other ways dominated by mainly gold sellers.

And for some people, strangely enough, mmo's are more about building a rep they could never get in real life - and if they have to cheat, then so be it.

Agreed.
And then there's of course the people with the "I work enough on my day job, if I can buy myself around a few corners in a game to get past the rough edges I don't like, it's OK" attitude. (omg what a long title to an attitude problem)

Seriously who would do that! What is the point of buying a game that looks good to then go out and cheat on it! It really annoys me that some people just buy their way around the game. Agreed with Matsuka.
