FAQThis is a frequently asked questions list - aimed mainly at newer players, but you might find something in here you didn't know.
Section A: Costumes
- How do I change how I look?
You go to the tailor's shop in Cap Au Diable and pay a tailor to change your appearance. It is marked by a $ icon in the South-West of the map. Colour change is cheap, physical change is expensive. The only thing you can never change is your height and gender.
- How do I change between different costumes?
Initially, you only have a single costume, so the only way to change your appearance is to pay to change how you look (see last answer). When you reach 20th, 30th, 40th, however, you can get simple missions from the tailor's shop in Cap au Diable (Check in the back rooms for the tailors that give the missions). They unlock your extra costume slots, so you can quick-change at will (By default, 'k' opens your costume window so you can change which one you want to wear). The maximum number of costumes you can have is currently four.
- How do I get my cape?
Well, when you reach 20th level, you contact the very first contact you ever had (Kalinda or Burke) and they will have a mission for you to do to get a cape.Once completed, "cape" will additionally be available when you alter your costume at the tailor's. Capes are available in a large variety of styles, including rags, scarfs and insect wings.
- How do I get my glowy aura?
Well, when you reach 30th level, you contact the very first contact you ever had (Kalinda or Burke) and they will have a mission for you to do to get an aura. Once completed, "aura" will additionally be available when you alter your costume at the tailor's. Auras can make you glow, look like you are on fire, etc.
Section B: Superpowers
- I want to get a super-movement power. Which is the best one for me?
Four different super-movement powers are available at level 14 in the pool power set (though they require you to take a preliminary power from the power pool, which is available from level 6). Personally, I'd advise you to take Superjump or Flying for your first toon since the other two are more difficult to use (though good in their own ways).
- Flying - Moderately high endurance cost (vulnerable to relatively common -fly powers).
- Superjump - Possibly the best all-round power, though you have to land between each jump so you need to have your wits about you (vulnerable to -jump powers).
- Superspeed - Fastest power, but unless you pick hurdle and/or combat jump to go with it, you often find yourself blocked in. Nice that you get a little stealth with it, so you don't pull EVERY mob you run past (vulnerable to slow powers).
- Teleportation - Very high endurance cost, but fast and harder for people to follow you as you teleport in little jumps.
I've seen that hardcore PVPers seem to like to have superspeed AND superjump together.
- I want to make my toon better. What is all this about enhancements: training, DOs, SOs?
- I am selling enhancements because I can't use them. How do I ensure that I get the best price for them?
You can sell training enhancements to any quartermaster and get the same price. Dual origin (DO) enhancements should be sold to one of the vendors associated with the enhancement (a technology/science enhancement will get the best price at the technology or science quartermasters). Single origin (SO) enhancements should be sold only to the quartermaster of that type - a mutant enhancement should only be sold to the mutant quatermaster. Selling enhancements to the correct quartermaster can net 50% more infamy...so make sure you make that extra effort.
- I can't use an enhancement - can I do anything but sell them to the quartermasters?
Swapping/selling DOs/SOs with friends can save a lot of money too. Don't bother swapping/selling training enhancements - they have little effect and they get out of date so quickly it isn't worth the trouble.
Section C: Other questions
- I hate hero-wimps (and other villains for that matter)! When do I get to kick them to death?
There are three types of PVP available in CoV:
- PVP is available (and automatic) in the PVP zones: Bloody Bay (from Cap Au Diable at 15+), Siren's Call (from Sharkshead Isles at 20+), Warburg (from Nerva Archipelago at 30+) and Recluse's Victory (From Grandville at 40+). When in the zone, all character levels are equalised to 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th, respectively. Remember that being killed by a mob in a PVP zone still causes XP debt, so be careful of fighting near to mobs (or running into mobs when you are fleeing for your life!).
- You can arrange PVP matches (deathmatch/teams) in the arena which is at the South end of Port Oakes. Such friendly matches are usually villain vs villain, but heroes can join in if they want.
- Your villain group can organise a friendly raid against another villain/hero group. This will mean fighting in your base against another group. As yet, there are no rewards for this, but competetive raids should be implemented after Issue 8.
- I am advancing too slowly/I am finding the game too easy. What can I do about it?
- I have been asked to enable SG-mode when I joined my villain group. How do I do that and what does that mean?
- I have just started my toon. What sort of powers should I be picking and in what order?
- People seem to type messages/perform actions quickly and repeatedly. How do they do that?
You can create your own predefined actions with macros/binds, but there are some useful phrases that are provided by default:
- F6 - RUN!
- F7 - Ready!
- F8 - HELP! (With whistle sound)
- F9 - Level Level Architype, looking for team.
- F10 - Your warcry (Change with Menu->ID).
