How does the XP system really work?

Seems the bigger a party is, the bigger the spawns, so the more XP can be had. However, the XP is reduced for each member in the party.

Now, the lower your level is (to a max of about 4-5 under the party leader?), the more XP you get per kill. However, if you are lackeyed you get less then your malefactor, and a lot less then you would if not lk'ed.

What I'm wondering is this: How does your level, and lk status, affect the other players XP gain?

Let say I'm Mal'ing someone who is 3 levels below me. Do I gain more xp per kill like that, then when he is "on his own"? I know if I Mal him, he will be able to kill stuff faster and that may increase the number of kills per hour, but it will reduce his XP per kill...

Anyway, can someone explain how the system works to me?

Well, as far as I can tell, the XP you get is based on relative level of what you kill. So, if you lackeyed up by 3 levels, then the XP you get is what you would get if all the mobs were pulled down by 3 levels. E.g. I'm level 7 and lackeyed by a level 11, so I fight at level 10. I kill a level 13 (adjusted level + 3) and I get the same XP as if I had killed a level 10 (orginal level + 3) without being lackeyed.

So yes, you get less XP for being lackeyed, but no less than you would fighting mobs of your own level. Usually, if you don't lackey when you could, you are pretty much leeching from those who are actually doing the killing. Of course, most people like to play on villainous (they like to be bored *yawn*), so you could pretty much drag around a whole team of leeches without a lot of problems *8-P*

Reputation affects what spawns quite a lot, leading to both more mobs and more bosses. Not sure I remember this correctly, but I think it is:
  • Villainous => normal
  • Malicious => more mobs.
  • Vicious => more bosses.
  • Ruthless => More bosses and lots more mobs.
  • Relentless => Lots more mobs and bosses.
As far as level equivalents, I feel that each increase in reputation is about +0.5 levels in difficulty (so if I can do a level 10 mission on villainous, I could also do a level 8 on relentless with the same level of risk/effort).

If you are in a strong "solo" architype, like Brute or MM, then I think you can definitely run at a higher XP/hour solo than in a team. The big thing about a team, because of the larger groups of enemies you face, is the first strike you receive if you pull (which will kill one person very quickly if the team doesn't know how to start a combat safely) - this is what seems to put people off high-rep/large-teams. I always team though, and try to play at the highest rep that the team can manage, since it is more fun!

Anyway, I am sure others might be able to disagree with my ancient wisdom...which if not out of date, may well be misremembered.

It's also the number of people in the team which depend on the mobs and bosses. I think if there are 3-4 ppl it would be +1lvl mobs, 5-6 ppl +2lvl mobs and some bosses, 7-8 +3lvl mobs and more bosses. Not really sure but this seems to be how it works.

Thanks for the info.

FWIW: Almost all the teams I've seen since 25th level are Relentless. And as a MM I can solo Relentless just fine except for some of the AV's and Heroes. I make a LOT more XP per hour in an 8 person team then I do alone however.
